- If someone has stolen your financial information, it's best to immediately contact your credit card companies and close your accounts
- If someone has stolen your social security number you can place it on the initial fraud alert by calling consumer reporting companies.
- Three nationwide consumer reporting companies are Equinox, Experian, and Transunion
- Don't use personal information for passwords like your mother's maiden name or social security number
- The Fair credit Reporting Act allows you to ask and receive one credit report from each of the three nationwide credit reporting companies every year.
- If bills stop coming it may be a sign someone is still stealing your identity.
